Manhattan Chiropractor Granted Patent for His Spinal Decompression Group -- First Chiropractor in New York to Receive Patent for Non-surgical Spinal Decompression Treatment

NYC Chiropractor is granted a Patent for his spinal decompression group. This group is dedicated to Non Surgical treatment of bulging/ Herniated discs, Sciatica, spinal stenosis, and Chronic low back pain. This group has the highest success rate in New York.

(PRWEB) December 17, 2007 -- Manhattan Chiropractor Dr. Steven Shoshany has been recently granted a Certification of registration from the United States of America for a Patent Service Mark for his Spinal decompression group NYCDISC which stands for New York Spinal Decompression specialists. This group was formed over three years ago and is comprised of the best trained and equipped spinal decompression doctors in New York City. To be a service provider the doctor must meet certain criteria and utilize special equipment like the DRX 9000.

The DRX9000™ computerized nonsurgical spinal decompression systems were designed to provide maximum patient benefits with the use of a noninvasive approach that may help minimize health care resources and offer a potentially optimal therapeutic approach to the treatment of LBP (low back pain).
In order to be considered you must have a DRX 9000 table or a comparable table, sorry not DTS tables or modified traction tables allowed. This group was formed out of necessity as spinal decompression grew in its popularity more chiropractors are offering this service and the goal of NYCDISC is to maintain a level of excellence in providing spinal decompression services.

Dr. Steven Shoshany is the founder of this group and has consulted with doctors nationwide on the principles and protocols of spinal decompression. This non surgical procedure has been shown to be 89% effective in resolving disc herniation, sciatica spinal stenosis and disc degeneration.

Spinal decompression when combined with a targeted Physical therapy and nutritional program can help many patients that have been suffering needlessly. In the United States, low back pain is the second most common reason for physician visits and the third most common indication for surgery. However, a special report published in the December issue of Anesthesiology News highlights exciting research on a medical device that offers patients a non-surgical treatment option in treating chronic low back pain. The device is called the DRX9000™ and is manufactured by Axiom Worldwide of Tampa, FL. The authors of this special report are from the prestigious institutions of Duke University School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. They conclude their special report by stating, "The DRX9000™ computerized nonsurgical spinal decompression systems were designed to provide maximum patient benefits with the use of a noninvasive approach that may help minimize health care resources and offer a potentially optimal therapeutic approach to the treatment of LBP (low back pain)." The report is attached.

What is the Best spinal decompression table?

www.drshoshany.com
What about the DTS table?

Chattanooga DTS system or a.k.a as the DTS is my opinion is an inferior table compared to the DRX 9000 or the Spine-med table. I have been utulizing spinal decompression in my practce for 4 plus years longer than most chiropractors in Manhattan. Several new Chiropractors have added this table to their practice and even are offering the first five visits free. I believe that you get what you pay for and I have made a major investment in my practice and my patients health. Why settle for inexpensive equipment? The Chattanooga table is about $ 8,000 K and the DRX is about $95 K, What table do you want to be treated on? If that is the only table you have access to then it can't hurt you, but if you want top of the line spinal decompression and want to treated on the best then go with the table that has set the benchmark, the DRX 9000. I do not offer free treatments but I do offer a free consultation. If you have an MRI report or better yet the actual film I will review them and give you a second opinion. Call (212) 645-8151 to speak to me directly.
I posted both pictures of the DRX 9000 and the DTX which one looks better to you.

Carpal tunnel Syndrome and treatments

I have been helping New York city office workers for almost 10 years now at our Manhattan Chiropractic Center. Because of this, we have witnessed first hand what sitting in front of a computer for 8-12 hours per day can do to the body over time. Hint: It's Not Good

One of the more common problems we treat is arm and hand pain. Sometimes there is weakness of grip, numbness or tingling in the hands, and even night pain. These are the classic signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). They are also some of the signs and symptoms of a cervical disc herniation.

Yes...herniated discs in the neck can cause the same symptoms as carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist. How is this possible?

Well...the nerves that exit from the bones in the neck, travel down the arms and into the hands. One of these nerves...the median nerve...branches off and enters into the carpal tunnel, an opening in the wrist which contains some tendons and the median nerve. Compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel is what causes CTS.

Nerves are very sensitive to pressure. Any kind of pressure on a nerve will interfere with the transmission of the nerve impulse from the brain to the target cells. Since the target cells of the nerves that exit the cervical spine include the hand...pressure on the nerves in the neck...can cause symptoms in the hand.
The Medical treatment involves Physical therapy and medication and sometimes surgery.
My approach consists of specific Chiropractic adjustments, Cold laser therapy and physical therapy. Cervical Spinal decompression using the DRX 9000C can correct disc herniations in the cervical spine.
Cold laser therapy has FDA approval to treat Carpal tunnel syndrome.

Spinal Decompression Is a Magical Cure for Some People

Luckily I've never suffered a serious bout of back pain -- and staying strong in the hope I won't have problems like that is one reason I am so committed to fitness. Even so, though, the truth is that most of us (80% by some estimates) will have back pain at some time or another -- whether from over-exertion, injury or simply a result of the aging process. Chronic back pain is frustrating, not only because of how badly it hurts but also because it can be difficult to cure. It is the fifth most common reason for doctor visits.

A particularly common cause of such pain is a herniated disk, also referred to colloquially as a "slipped disk." For a long time, the usual mainstream medical solutions were surgery, physical therapy and/or pain medication, all of which take a long time and may not work for everyone. So I was very interested to learn about a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment for herniated disks called spinal decompression.

Visualize the disks in your back as being like hard donuts filled with a jelly-like material in the center. With age, the strong fibrous cartilage (the donut) can weaken, allowing the jelly-like material (nucleus pulposus) to bulge, which in and of itself is not painful. But more seriously, with a herniated disk the hard tissue has actually torn or ruptured, causing this material to ooze and press on spinal nerves. This causes pain that can range from mild to horrible.

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION 101: A PRIMER

One of the first devices used for spinal decompression was approved by the FDA in 1995. Because spinal decompression requires special expertise and pricey equipment, few chiropractors have offered this treatment -- but numbers are growing as training and better insurance reimbursement becomes more commonplace, I was told by Steven Shoshany, DC, a New York City-based chiropractor who specializes in spinal decompression.

Here's how it works: The patient lies on a comfortable table made specifically for this purpose, comfortably strapped down with a pelvis and torso harness that resembles a girdle. Calling it a "high-tech traction device," Dr. Shoshany explained how it works. "Slowly and comfortably, almost imperceptibly, the machine creates traction by pulling and holding for one minute. Then, intermittently, it releases. It is believed that this creates a negative pressure, or a vacuum within the disk, which then draws back the herniated-disk material which was displaced." With less pressure inside the disk, and thus less on the spinal nerves, pain often decreases or might even disappear -- sometimes instantaneously. To "fix the hold," however, numerous sessions may be required.

This technique also allows nutrient-rich fluid to go to the area where there is less pressure, stimulating the healing process. Most patients either sleep or watch a DVD during the treatment, Dr. Shoshany told me. Each session takes about 30 minutes and a typical treatment program may take between 20 to 30 sessions.

Critics contend that there are no long-range, well-designed studies looking at efficacy over time, but there has been some research on the treatment and the results are promising. In one study published in 2001 in Neurological Research, researchers reported that a spinal decompression therapy called VAX-D produced a success rate of 68.4%, compared with 0% for a placebo therapy in treatment of chronic low back pain. Another study from a team of researchers at the University of Illinois and Rome found a 71% success rate for treatment of herniated disk and other causes of low back pain, with "success" defined as a reduction in pain to 0 or 1 on a scale of 0 to 5.

NOT FOR EVERYONE

Dr. Shoshany noted that some people get much more benefit from spinal decompression than others, and it is not an option for everyone. "It's not a good choice for a person who has metal implants in the spine," he warned. It's better for people with a single-disk herniation than those who have herniation in several or all of them. Also, people who are morbidly obese and/or who smoke likely won't find much relief from spinal decompression either.

The procedure is thought to be safe, though there is no hard science supporting its efficacy. If you do decide to seek out this somewhat unconventional form of treatment, it's safest and best to do so with the oversight of your orthopedic surgeon, who can help you ascertain whether it might work in your case. Spinal Decompression using the DRX 9000

www.drshoshany.com
DATA FROM A RECENT MULTI-CENTER PILOT STUDY UTILIZING AXIOM WORLDWIDE’S DRX9000™ REVEALS A DRAMATIC SUCCESS RATE OF 88.9%!

Clinical results to be presented at the 2007 annual conference of the American Academy of Pain Management.

Tampa, FL September 5, 2007: The clinical results of an IRB-approved prospective, multi-center, phase II, non-randomized pilot study utilizing the DRX9000™ will be presented at the 18th Annual Clinical Meeting of the American Academy of Pain Management in Las Vegas, NV September 27- 30, 2007. The study, authored by Dr. John Leslie of The Mayo Clinic, was designed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the DRX9000 in the treatment of chronic lower back pain. Patients enrolled in the study had suffered an overall average of ten years of chronic back pain. After two weeks of treatments on the DRX9000 there was a 50% reduction in pain scores and upon completion of the entire six week protocol an amazing success rate of 88.9% was documented. The patients also reported an improvement in their Oswestry Disability score. Abstracts and copies of the presentation will be made available following the release of the study data at the American Academy of Pain Management.

Non-treatment or control groups were not included making efficacy outcome versus placebo or spontaneous recovery difficult to determine. Randomized double-blinded or comparative long-term outcome trials are needed to further prove the efficacy of non-surgical spinal decompression systems such as the DRX9000Ô for the routine treatment of chronic LBP. This study was partially funded by Axiom Worldwide

I found this great article on Chiroweb.com this is geared more to the doctors, I have encountered problems with this group anyone else let me know!

Written by Dr. Edwards

Offering Spinal Decompression Therapy? Expect ACN to Try to Terminate Your Contract!
After writing my first article on spinal decompression therapy (Feb. 12, 2007 issue of Dynamic Chiropractic),1 I must admit that the response from readers was somewhat surprising. In fact, I received more e-mail responses about that article than any other article I have written as a columnist for this publication!

As consultants for doctors who provide traction/decompression services and as postgraduate instructors on traction/decompression coding and marketing compliance, nothing happens in the spinal decompression arena without me and my wife and practice partner, Dr. Cynthia Vaughn, hearing about it within hours. And since the publication of my first article, a great deal has occurred, especially related to insurance company coding positions and licensing board actions against doctors.

For that reason, I was writing this issue’s article about those two subjects. But on the very day of the submission deadline for this issue, Dr. Vaughn and I received certified letters from the American Chiropractic Network (ACN), notifying us that ACN was terminating our provider contracts based upon the insurer’s contention that spinal decompression therapy is an unproven modality for therapeutic purposes. Thus, our discussion of those other two subjects will have to wait, as I will use this article to alert the profession about ACN’s latest antics.

Here is a thumbnail sketch of what has occurred. As consultants on traction/decompression coding and marketing compliance, we undertook to represent a client in his effort to stop ACN from terminating his provider contract on the primary basis that he was offering traction/decompression services. Once we agreed to serve as his expert witnesses and that became known to ACN, we also became targets of its termination jihad.

For the life of us, we do not understand why ACN would attempt to cancel a provider’s contract on the basis of providing traction/decompression services. However, we suspect ACN is using this avenue to remove doctors who currently advocate the benefits of spinal decompression therapy, and especially those doctors who serve the American Chiropractic Association – such as Dr. Vaughn and I – and who are very active in the ACA’s pending lawsuit against ACN.

English philosopher Edmund Burke once said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Dr. Vaughn and I will not be guilty of “doing nothing” as ACN attempts to bully members of the chiropractic profession and chiropractic patients into accepting only those treatment options deemed acceptable to the shortsighted and misguided administrators at ACN.

Should you face similar inquiries or threatened sanctions through your use of traction/decompression services, or should you have questions or want additional information on issues related to spinal decompression coding, office procedures or marketing compliance, please feel free to contact me.

Spinal decompression therapy

www.drshoshany.com
I was contacted by the American Chiropractic Network yesterday, apparently they are not happy that I utilize Spinal decompression in my practice.
I am a participating provider with ACN they manage United health care and Aetna Chiropractic network in New York.
I explained to them that this is an elective procedure and patients pay Cash or finance the service, and they are happy to pay because they are getting amazing results.
This seemed to fall on deaf ears, They made some valid points about the fact that more double blind studies must be done, also they mentioned that it is not taught at Chiropractic schools which is untrue because it is now taught at Life West.
ACN is the same group that recommends all Chiropractors to stop seeing patients after the 5th visit or you get reviewed and kicked out!
I no longer want someone to tell me how to treat my patients and how many visits to treat them for based on some formula. This is managed care and it doesn't take into consideration what is best for the patient.
www.drshoshany.com
The point I am making is that more studies do need to be conducted and if this procedure is going to gain mainstream acceptance as the preferred Non surgical treatment for Low back pain due to herniated discs more work must be done.
If you are a Chiropractor that is In network with any managed care plans you must play by their rules.
Did you ever wonder why pioneers in the medical field are not participating providers?

Spinal Decompression in Manhattan

PowerPlate combined with the DRX 9000 non surgical spinal decompression makes for an incredible treatment for Chronic low back pain PowerPlate in the new New York -WABC, March 22, 2006) - Exercise and prevent cellulite and osteoporosis, all at the same time? That's the promise of the so called Power Plate. Some of the biggest stars swear by it. Eyewitness News reporter Lauren Glassberg is here now with the details. Usually when you go to the gym, you're trying to tone and burn calories, but now there's a device that's starting to show up in gyms that's going a step or two further: it's believed to benefit people with osteoporosis and varicose veins. William Castillo literally shakes up his routine with a device gets his body vibrating. In no time he's sweating and over time he says it's helped shrink his varicose veins. Casa Spa owner Sally Imbo is also a believer in the power plate. You might be too. The Power Plate is in essence a vibrating platform that vibrates between 30 and 50 times a second. So what does that do for you? Almost any exercise is possible on the Power Plate, and because your body is constantly being thrown off balance, it's that much harder. Your muscles get a work out and your bones may benefit as well. Madonna is reported to have used a Power Plate after breaking bones in a horse back riding accident, so a little shaking on this could set you straight. Sally Imbo, Casa Spa: "You might come in with the intention of having a better looking butt or something but you'll have the benefit of increased bone density." Or, at the very least, reduce the loss of bone density. Of course more study is needed, but pro sports teams are now using Power Plates for their training and conditioning, and more and more gyms are buying them for their clients to use. www.drshoshany.com The combination of The DRX 9000 which is the best spinal decompression table on the market and the PowerPlate is an incredible solution to those suffering with pain from herniated discs. www.drshoshany.com Call (212) 645-18151 in New York City for PowerPlate and Spinal decompression treatment for herniated discs. Chronic low back pain solution.I recently found a gym in New York that charges 45 dollars for twenty minutes on the PowerPlate. When someone undergoes spinal decompression this is a part of the Rehab and it is also usually covered by the health insurance.

Decompression

www.drshoshany.com
Did anyone read the article in this months Chiropractic Products?
There is a article in titled " Decompression makes a Position Statement" and it is about a doctor in Florida that uses the 3D active trac.
I find it funny that Dr. Young can say that the table is "better than the system offered on the infomercial because the Saunders Group has learned from the earlier {vendor} and has better technology".
I use the DRX 9000 and the 3d active trac in my practice and you can not even compare the two tables they are not even in the same league.
The DRX 9000 is so much more comfortable and the fact that it has a trendelenburg lift makes all the difference in the world after patients are done with decompression.
I never use the 3D active trac for lumbar decompression anymore now that I have the DRX table and the results are far better with the DRX.
That magazine is all ads and that is why i started this blog is to get truthful feedback from doctors on Spinal decompression technique and protocols without paid advertisers.

I welcome comments from patients and doctors on their experience on tables.
